OWINGS MILLS — The Ravens added another key player to their talented secondary, signing two-time Pro Bowl safety Eddie Jackson to a one-year deal, the team announced on Friday.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Jackson, 30, was selected in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL draft by the Bears from Alabama and played the last seven seasons in Chicago. He was released in February for salary-cap reasons.
He is the second high-profile player from the Bears to join the Ravens, reuniting with former teammate and All-Pro inside linebacker Roquan Smith.
Jackson has 459 total tackles, 355 solo stops, 14 tackles for a loss, 44 pass breakups, 15 interceptions, and 10 forced fumbles in his career. He is regarded as one of the best safeties in the NFL, despite dealing with foot injuries and appearing in 12 games in each of the past two seasons.
Jackson was the highest-graded safety in the NFL in 2018 by Pro Football Focus.
Jackson joins a loaded Ravens secondary led by fellow safety and All-Pro Kyle Hamilton. The addition of Jackson is also insurance for the Ravens’ other starting safety, Marcus Williams, who has missed 13 regular-season games because of various injuries.
The Ravens also have a pair of first-round draft picks at cornerback in Marlon Humphrey and rookie Nate Wiggins.
