OWINGS MILLS — Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson practiced for the first time in training camp Wednesday but left early after missing the previous three days because of illness.
Jackson was on the practice field for about one hour and 13 minutes on a hot and humid day. He completed 1 of 5 passes in team drills and was intercepted by cornerback Marlon Humphrey. Jackson worked mainly with the second-team offense.
The Ravens do not practice Thursday, but Jackson could be on the practice field again Friday. Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken said that Jackson was fully engaged.
“It was great – it’s great having him there,” Monken said. “I’m not tied into where he’s at at this moment, but it was great to have him back in meetings and on the field.”
Monken was not worried about Jackson being set back because of the illness.
“I mean, we had all offseason – Lamar [Jackson] was a part of that in our offseason,” Monken said. “But it was great for the other quarterbacks to get the work. That’s a part of it, so it’s great having him back today, but I don’t feel behind. We didn’t stop – we still installed, we’re still going through the installs.”
6 interceptions: The Ravens’ secondary had another dominant day and made six interceptions. After Humphrey intercepted Jackson, he had another pick from backup quarterback Josh Johnson. Trayvon Mullen also had two interceptions but one was called because of a penalty. Safety Marcus Williams had a pick-six against Johnson on the first play of practice. Fellow safety Kyle Hamilton also had an interception. Finally, Jalyn Armour-Davis closed out the day with an interception against Johnson in the red-zone drills.
Pressure: Inside linebacker Odafe Oweh was dominant again and was in the backfield several times. In addition, undrafted rookie linebacker Joe Evans had a presumed sack on the 11-on-11 drills when he beat rookie tackle Julian Pearl.
Governor Wes Moore in the house: Maryland Governor Wes Moore was at practice Wednesday weaning a Lamar Jackson jersey and playing catch with some of the young fans, After practice, he was going to tour M&T Bank Stadium to look at some of the renovations. The Ravens are using a projected $430 million of the $600 million of state funds allotted for improvements around the stadium.
“This is such an exciting team,” Moore said at practice. “How do you prepare for the Baltimore Ravens? What does a team do throughout the week to prepare for what the Ravens are going to bring to them on Sunday? How do you prepare for Lamar Jackson? Who do you have on your scout team that is as fast as Lamar Jackson? Who do you have on your scout team that prepares you for Derrick Henry?
“We had a great year last year that didn’t end the way any of us hoped that it would, but I tell you what, I am excited we have the Chiefs on Week 1 because we’re going to bring it to them.”
