OWINGS MILLS — Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is still dealing with an illness, and he did not practice again on Friday.
Jackson continues to undergo further evaluation and receive care from the Ravens’ medical team, the team announced.
He has missed four of the team’s five training camp practices. Jackson was on the field Wednesday, but he left just over an hour into practice. The players were not on the practice field Thursday.
Coach John Harbaugh did not have a timeline for when Jackson will return to practice.
“He’s fighting through an illness, working with our doctors,” Harbaugh said. “He is doing all the tests and doing even more tests to make sure we have everything covered. I am confident that he will be back pretty soon. It’s just unpredictable.”
Physical practice: The Ravens practiced in pads for the first time, and it was a physical affair. In addition to some jarring collisions, the team had its first minor altercation when running back Justice Hill and inside linebacker Trenton Simpson had to be separated by left tackle Ronnie Stanley. Simpson apparently did not like the way Hill had blocked him picking up a blitz. Running back Derrick Henry also ran into several defenders.
“I did like the physicality,” Harbaugh said. “I thought it was good; the lines both looked good. What you don’t want to do is see guys get crazy with their technique when they come out and put their pads on, and I felt like we didn’t. They stayed square, they stayed in control, they had their feet underneath themselves, they played good solid football. We didn’t have a bunch of mistakes; [there were] a little bit, there were some, but not too many mental errors, not too much jumping offside, things like that, with the pads on the first day.”
More interceptions: Rookie safety Sanoussi Kane, a seventh-round pick, earned his first interception of training camp when he corralled a ball deflected by cornerback Ka’dar Hollman. Veteran defensive back Daryl Worley also had a pick-six on rookie quarterback Devin Leary.
Good hustle: Ravens wide receiver Nelson Agholor caught a pass in the middle of the field and began to run toward the end zone. Rookie Nate Wiggins then ran about 25 yards to catch up with Agholor just before he reached the pylon and tried to punch the ball away. Wiggins, the team’s first-round pick, has played well throughout the offseason and put himself in a position to be part of the rotation in the secondary this season.
Absences: In addition to Jackson, defensive back Christian Matthew, outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy, and inside linebacker Yvandy Rigby. cornerback T.J. Tampa, running back Keaton Mitchell, and linebacker Adisssa Isaac did not practice.
“Who has it better than us?” Longtime college coach Jack Harbaugh, the father of coach John Harbaugh, attended practice. He broke the huddle at the end of the day with his customary: “Who has it better than us?”
The players replied: “Nobody.”
