Ravens Training Camp: Rashod Bateman with catch of the day, then shaken up

OWINGS MILLS — Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman had the catch of the day when he jumped over two defenders in the corner of the end zone for a 15-yard touchdown reception from Lamar Jackson.

However, Bateman appeared to get injured on the play and did not return to take another rep. He stayed on the sideline, but he appeared to be holding the left side of his torso around the rib cage.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh did not have an update on Bateman’s status after practice.

“I haven’t been told anything yet,” Harbaugh said.

Bateman is having a solid training camp but various injuries have hampered him. The hope is that this latest issue will not keep him out long-term.

Bateman has dealt with various injuries, including hernia surgery that sidelined him for the first six games of his rookie season. The following year, he had foot surgery and was placed on injured reserve after six games.

This past year, Bateman appeared in 16 regular-season games and finished fifth on the team with 32 receptions for 367 yards and a touchdown. He also caught four passes for 41 yards in the two playoff games.

Walker flashes speed: Rookie wide receiver Devontez Walker got behind the secondary and caught a long touchdown pass from Jackson. Walker has been consistent throughout training camp and is becoming a viable downfield threat.

More interceptions: Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey made his sixth interception of the training camp when he caught a deflected pass off tight end Scottie Washington on a pass from Jackson. Safety Ar’Darius Washington had a pick-six when jumped a route and caught a pass intended for Malik Cunningham from Josh Johnson.

“It felt good. It was my first play – well first pick, so it felt good definitely to get on the board, too,” Washington said.

Looking at centers: With Tyler Linderbaum missing his third straight practice with a minor injury, guard Ben Cleveland took reps at center after also playing the position during OTAs. The Ravens value versatility on the offensive line.

“He continues to work in there. Tyler [Linderbaum] is out right now – they’re kind of evaluating him – he had some discomfort, and we’re going to hold him out,” Harbaugh said. “We’re going to be very cautious with Tyler, obviously. There is not anything he needs right now in terms of practice, so we’ll kind of rest him up there. We’re going to work Ben [Cleveland], we’re going to work [Andrew] Vorhees in there. We’re going to work all of those guys.”
