Kyle Hamilton back at Ravens’ practice after injury scare; Lamar Jackson connects on deep passes

OWINGS MILLS — Ravens All-Pro safety Kyle Hamilton was back at practice two days after dealing with a leg injury.

Hamilton participated in the individual and team drills.

Hamilton closed down a play and broke up a deep pass from Lamar Jackson intended for wide receiver Zay Flowers. However, Hamilton could not come up with an interception, so he did about 20 pushups on the field.

“I’d be hard-pressed to find another player in the league to make a play like that,” defensive coordinator Zachary Orr said. “We wish he caught the ball. He’ll tell you that, too. But it was a heck of a play. Kyle Hamilton, he’s one-of-one, and we’re glad he’s part of our team.”

On Sunday, Hamilton landed awkwardly on his left leg and had to leave practice with about an hour remaining. After the initial scare, coach John Harbaugh reported that Hamilton would be fine.

“We feel fortunate. We were thanking the Lord that it wasn’t something serious … it was something minor,” Orr said. “That’s just a testament to Kyle Hamilton. His toughness, and his willingness to be there for his teammates. He’s a heck of a player.’

Wide receiver Rashod Bateman was also more active in practice on Tuesday and was also moving without any issues. Bateman participated in the individual and team drills.

Jackson and the deep ball: Jackson connected on a 65-yard pass to Nelson Agholor in the seven-on-seven drills. Jackson has been more aggressive and accurate with his deep throws over the past week in practice. Jackson also completed throws downfield to Anthony Miller and Deonte Harty on Tuesday.

Was it good? Ravens kicker Justin Tucker appeared to convert a 68-yard field from the media’s perspective. However, the official ruled the kick was short. Ravens special team coordinator Chris Horton said he couldn’t see the kick. Tucker speaks to the media on Wednesday, so stay tuned.

Ar’Darius Washington makes another play: Safety Ar’Darius Washington made another interception. This time, he jumped a route on a pass from Josh Johnson and had a clear run to the end zone.

Ravens sign running back: The Ravens signed veteran running back John Kelly on Tuesday. Kelly spent the past three seasons with the Cleveland Browns and appeared in five games. Over six NFL seasons, Kelly, 27, has 32 career carries for 96 yards. He also spent time with the Los Angeles Rams but hasn’t had a carry since 2021. Kelly replaces outside linebacker Quincy Roche on the roster.

Absences: The Ravens who were not practicing on Tuesday included cornerbacks Nate Wiggins and Arthur Maulet, wide receiver Russell Gage, running back Rasheen Ali, safety Sanoussi Kane, defensive back Christian Matthew, inside linebacker Chris Board, and center Tyler Linderbaum.
