Ravens tight end Mark Andrews OK after car accident

OWINGS MILLS — Ravens tight end Mark Andrews was involved in a car accident while driving to the Under Armour Performance Center early Wednesday and appears to have escaped any injuries, the team announced.

“Andrews was evaluated by medical staff at the Ravens’ training facility and did not sustain any apparent injuries. He later joined the team for morning meetings,” the team said in a statement.

A preliminary Baltimore County police report stated that the accident happened at 9:45 a.m. at Lyons Mill Road in Owing Mills. The crash involved two vehicles that sustained heavy damage and injuries were reported. The case remains open, according to a police spokesman.

Andrews was scheduled for a non-practice day on Wednesday and is expected to return to practice in the coming days.

The Ravens did not disclose any further details about the accident.

“I appreciate everyone’s thoughts and well wishes,” Andrews said. “This is a great reminder about the importance of wearing seatbelts and remaining alert while driving a car.”

It’s the second time this year that Andrews made headlines for a non-football issue.

Andrews helped a woman in medical distress on a flight from Baltimore to Phoenix in February. The woman, traveling on Southwest, had a mid-flight medical emergency, according to another passenger. A doctor and nurse who came to her aid found a weak pulse, low blood pressure, and used oxygen to help her breathe, according to eyewitness Andew Springs, who was on the flight and shared the episode on X, formerly Twitter.

Springs said Andrews, who was in an aisle seat, stood and said, “Could it be her blood sugar? I have a diabetic testing kit.” The woman was stabilized after Andrews’ intervention.

Andrews, a three-time Pro Bowler, declared himself healthy for Ravens’ training camp after a serious injury last season. He sustained a fractured fibula and ligament damage in his left ankle against Cincinnati on a controversial hip-drop tackle by Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson on November 16th. Despite missing six games, Andrews still ranked second on the team with 45 receptions for 544 yards and six touchdowns, best among the receivers.

The NFL made the hip-drop tackle illegal this offseason.
