A pair of offensive linemen and two rookie safeties got the most work for the Ravens in the final preseason game against the Green Bay Packers on Saturday.
Coach John Harbaugh will begin to finalize his final 53-man roster and name the starters for the opener at Kansas City on September 5th.
Guard Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu and Darrian Dalcourt played 63 snaps (33 percent) and 62 snaps (32 percent), respectively — the most of any players on the offense. Aumavae-Laulu made the roster last year, but he is on the bubble and did not do much to separate himself from the rest of the pack. Dalcourt is an undrafted rookie from Alabama who is trying to make the team or the practice squad, but his future is uncertain.
The Ravens’ starting offensive line consisted of left tackle Josh Jones (26 snaps, 50 percent), left guard Andrew Vorhees (14 snaps, 27 percent), center Nick Samac (17 snaps, 33 percent), right guard Daniel Faalele (14 snaps, 27 percent) and right tackle Roger Rosengarten (26 snaps, 50 percent).
Except for Jones and Samac, those players could start the regular season against the Chiefs. Ronnie Stanley will take Jones’ spot at left tackle. If healthy, Tyler Linderbaum will start at center. Guard Ben Cleveland (30 snaps, 58 percent) is still in the mix to start at center if Linderbaum is sidelined. However, Harbaugh is confident Linderbaum will be ready to play against Kansas City.
Samac, a rookie seventh-round pick, had to be carted off the field with an injury, so he might be headed to injured reserve.
Owen Wright got the start at running back and he was in a position to stay ahead of rookie fifth-round pick Rasheen Ali and Chris Collier for the third spot on the roster behind Derrick Henry and Justice Hill. However, Wright suffered a broken foot and will not be a factor this season. The third running back job is still to be determined and the Ravens might add a veteran. Ali did not play against the Packers because of a stinger, and he also could land on injured reserve. Collier led the team with 82 yards on 28 carries in the preseason.
Undrafted rookie Dayton Wade had the most snaps at wide receiver with 32 (60 percent). He also led the team with seven catches for 99 yards and a touchdown in the preseason. Wade’s best opportunity might be on the practice squad.
Defensively, outside linebacker Tavius Robinson (57 snaps, 88 percent) and inside linebacker Trenton Simpson (54 snaps, 83 percent) played the most. Both players have excelled this offseason and will be on the 53-man roster. Simspon had an interception and six tackles against the Packers, while Robinson had five tackles and two quarterback hits.
Rookie safeties Sanoussi Kane and Beau Brade each played 48 (74 percent). Both players are behind Kyle Hamilton, Marcus Williams, Eddie Jackson, and Ar’Darius Washington on the depth chart. The question is whether the Ravens will retain another safety on the final 53-man roster. Kane and Brade also could land on the practice squad.
