OWINGS MILLS — Quarterback Lamar Jackson continued to etch his name in the history books in Week 1 against Kansas City, even though the Ravens lost the opener.
Jackson completed 26 of 41 passes for 273 yards with a touchdown and ran for 122 yards on 16 carries in the 27-20 loss. It was the fourth time he produced 250 yards passing yards and 100 yards rushing, breaking a tie with quarterback Cam Newton for the most such performances in NFL history.
“I don’t expect [anything] less from [Jackson],” running back Derrick Henry said. “That’s what he’s been doing his whole career. That’s the type of player he is. We’re teammates now, but I’ve been seeing him when I was on the other side. That’s the type of player Lamar is. He’s going to put it on the line every single time.”
Jackson’s 122 rushing yards are the most by a quarterback in Week 1 in NFL history, surpassing Michael Vick’s total of 103 rushing yards in the 2010 season.
Jackson also surpassed Russell Wilson (5,307) for the third-most rushing yards by a quarterback in NFL history with 5,380. Jackson trails just Vick (6,109) and Newton (5,628) for the most all-time.
In addition, Jackson extended his NFL-record number of 100-yard rushing performances by a quarterback to 14 games. He also recorded his 55th outing with at least 50 rushing yards, surpassing Vick for the most 50-yard rushing performances by a quarterback in NFL history.
“[Jackson] showed you what type of player he is,” Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely. “The two-time MVP [doesn’t] back down to nobody, no matter where we are, no matter whose environment [we’re in or] who we’re going up against. He’s going to show you who he is every snap, every play, whether it’s running or passing. He shows you that he’s Lamar Jackson.”
