Report: Ravens not bringing back Jerry Rosburg

OWINGS MILLS  — One day after reports surfaced that the Ravens were bringing back their former special teams coach Jerry Rosburg for a role focused on game management, the team is reportedly not reuniting with him after all, according to Tom Pelissero, of the NFL Network.

Rosburg, 68, worked with Ravens coach John Harbaugh from 2008 until 2018 when he retired to spend more time with his family. Under Rosburg, the Ravens special teams unit was ranked among the best in the NFL.

Rosburg was replaced by Chris Horton, who is still the team’s special teams coach. Rosburg visited the Ravens’ training camp over the summer and this past regular season.

“He laid the foundation here for special teams, I’m just trying to keep it going,” Horton said about having Rosburg at practice.

Rosburg came out of retirement in 2022 to work with head coach Nathaniel Hackett in Denver to help with clock management. Hackett was eventually fired by the Broncos and Rosburg took over as the interim coach for the final two games of the regular season.

Rosburg was popular among the Broncos players and interviewed for Denver’s head coaching job in 2023 but the franchise decided to hire Sean Payton.

Rosburg also served as the special teams coordinator for the Browns (2001-06) and Falcons (2007) before going to Baltimore.
