The Ravens are hiring Baylor assistant Dennis Johnson as their defensive line coach, according to Jonathan Jones, NFL Insider for CBS Sports.
Johnson will replace Anthony Weaver, who was hired by the Miami Dolphins as their defensive coordinator.
Johnson was most recently the defensive line coach at Baylor. He mentored nose tackle Siaki Ika to an All-America season, finishing with 24 tackles and two tackles for a loss, and leading the team with five quarterback hurries.
Johnson also led a defensive line that was Baylor’s strength in 2021, finishing second in the conference in rushing defense (118.4 yards per game), scoring defense (18.3 points per game) and sacks (3.14 per game), all of which ranked in the top-17 nationally.
Johnson played collegiately as a backup on the defensive line, appearing in 19 games in three years. After graduating from LSU in May of 2012, Johnson got his start in coaching as a graduate assistant at Northwestern State, where he coached the linebackers. Johnson also spent the 2013 season at Northwestern State, where he worked with the secondary as a defensive backs coach.
After a brief stop at Kentucky in 2014, Johnson went back to LSU for the 2014 season, serving as a graduate assistant working with the defensive line.
Johnson remained with the defensive line in 2015, working under coach Ed Orgeron. Johnson worked four games into his second season as a graduate assistant in 2016 when LSU made a head coaching change and he was promoted to outside linebackers coach.
