Ravens’ running backs, safeties rated among NFL’s best

The Ravens have reloaded for the 2024 season and their running backs and safeties are ranked the best at their position groups in the NFL, according to an analysis by Pro Football Focus.

The Ravens led the NFL with 156.5 yards rushing per game last season. The addition of four-time Pro Bowl running back Derrick Henry should make the running attack even more formidable. The Ravens have depth behind Henry with Justice Hill and Keaton Mitchell, who is recovering from knee surgery.

The team also added Marshall’s Rasheen Ali in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL draft. Ali had 1,135 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns on 212 carries over 12 games last season. He also caught 28 passes for 213 yards with another score.

“The Ravens added Derrick Henry to an already productive room,” PFF’s John Kosko wrote. “Pairing Henry with the lightning-fast Keaton Mitchell and the underrated Justice Hill gives Baltimore a diverse backfield to punish opposing defenses, with Henry bulldozing through defensive lines, Mitchell speeding past tacklers and Hill spelling the future Hall of Famer.”

The Cowboys had the weakest-rated running backs.

The Ravens have one of the best starting safety tandems in the NFL in Pro-Bowler Kyle Hamilton and veteran Marcus Williams. The team also added Purdue safety Sanoussi Kane in the seventh round. Kane is expected to battle fourth-year player Ar’Darius Washington for the No, 3 role

“Kyle Hamilton‘s excellent play shouldn’t overshadow the importance of Marcus Williams at the other safety spot,” Kosko wrote. “With those two earning PFF grades of 86.4 and 73.8, respectively, the Ravens have a formidable duo that can play off each other’s strengths very well. Hamilton is a moveable chess piece and Williams can roam the middle of the field with excellent range. Baltimore’s safety group posted a 93.5 coverage grade in 2023.”

The Los Angeles Rams had the weakest-rated safeties.
