Ravens expect players to return healthy and ready for training camp

OWINGS MILLS — The Ravens should have almost all of their players available when training camp opens next month.

With the exception of running back Keaton Mitchell, who is recovering from knee surgery, the Ravens should have their key playmakers ready to practice. Mitchell won’t be available until after the start of the 2024 season, but he should be able to work himself back into the lineup.

“It’s not a comeback during training camp or first-game type of thing,” coach John Harbaugh said. “I think we all know that. It’s sometime during the season. It’s not like right around the corner. We shouldn’t be biting our fingernails, [wondering] is he going to get back.

“But I will say he’s on schedule, maybe ahead of schedule. He’s doing really well. He’s always got a smile on his face.”

The Ravens had players miss time in the mandatory minicamp with various ailments. Cornerback Marlon Humphrey missed with “nagging things, but he is expected to be available for training camp. “It shouldn’t be a problem,” Harbaugh said about Humphrey.

Safety Kyle Hamilton had an elbow procedure that sidelined him for the Organized Team Activities and the mandatory minicamp, but Hamilton also is expected to be available when the team returns to practice next month. Hamilton was named an All-Pro in just his second season in the NFL.

“Kyle will be ready,” Harbaugh said. “Kyle had some loose bodies in his elbow that they went ahead and just plucked out, so it’s a two-to-three-week deal.”

Another player who should be available is edge rusher David Ojabo, who had surgery in November to repair a partially torn anterior cruciate ligament. The injury ended Ojabo’s season after three games. Ojabo has already started working out and the Ravens expect him to be back on the practice field next month.

“We saw David Ojabo started getting into individuals,” Harbaugh said. “That was really good to see. So, it’s kind of working through it.”

Harbaugh expects the players to report to training camp in shape and ready to hit the ground running as the team sets its sights on another deep playoff run.

“There’s intentionality to everything we do. There should be a plan in terms of what we’re trying to accomplish every day,” Harbaugh said. “So, ‘what are you trying to accomplish for the next weeks that lead into training camp to put you in a position to have the best training camp to handle the loads involved, become the best team we can be and be intentional about that every single day?'”
