OWINGS MILLS — The Ravens had a solid day catching the ball on Tuesday, the last day of training camp at the Under Armour Performance Center.
Tight end Charlie Kolar was especially active with Mark Andrews being held out of practice after a car accident on August 14th. Kolar had several nifty receptions in traffic and caught a few passes downfield.
Kolar also will be expected to support the offensive line by blocking, and that’s been an area of emphasis this training camp.
“[Kolar] caught a lot of balls today – and he’s a big target, obviously, as a pass catcher, but as a blocker, that’s kind of what he’s been focusing on, and he’s developed quite nicely,” coach John Harbaugh said. “I mean you see him in the games – he’s more physical than he’s ever been, and we’re going to find out, because he’s going to be out there blocking people; and I really have a lot of confidence in him. He’s going to do really well.”
Play of the day: A pair of rookies made the biggest play in practice. Quarterback Devin Leary dropped back and hurled a 65-yard pass to wide receiver Devontez Walker, who got behind the safety Marcus Wliiams for the long touchdown.
More catches: Undrafted rookie Dayton Wade also made a impressive catch downfield. Rashod Bateman made a leaping grab in the back of the end zone on a pass from Lamar Jackson.
Issac sidelined again: Ravens rookie linebacker Adisa Isaac has a soft tissue injury. Isaac missed the first weeks of training camp with a hamstring injury.
“It’s not the one that’s going to keep him out like it was before,” Harbaugh said. “He just has to keep working through this. Adisa – you saw how well he played, right? It’s just a matter of him working into football shape. You think the guy is going to come out, and all of sudden he’s healthy, and like boom, he’s going to be 100 percent, but all of these practices callouses these guys.”
Other absences: Besides Andrews and Isaac, the other Ravens who missed practice were cornerbacks Arthur Maulet and Marlon Humphrey, center Tyler Linderbaum, offensive lineman Patrick Mekari, tight end Scotty Washington and Mark Andrews.
Injury settlement: Tight end Scotty Washington was waived by the Ravens with an injury settlement. Washington broke his hand in Saturday’s preseason game against Atlanta.
