OWINGS MILLS — Hard work has paid off for Ravens running back Justice Hill.
Hill, a fourth-round pick in 2019, agreed to terms on a two-year, $6 million contract extension to stay in Baltimore. Hill has been lauded for practice habits and was eligible for free agency at the end of the season.
“Justice has become a really, really good football player,” coach John Harbaugh said. “He’s probably one of the greatest shining examples of come to work every day, ready to work every day, be at your best, positive attitude, upbeat, ready to go, nothing too big for him, nothing too small for him.
“He just wants to be his best and lift everybody up. To see a guy like that get rewarded, to me, that’s what it’s about.”
Last season, Hill set career highs in yards (387), carries (84), and touchdowns (3) in 16 games. He also contributes on special teams and has averaged 23.7 yards per return over his four seasons as a returner.
This year, Hill has carried the ball five times for 25 yards as the main backup to Derrick Henry. He has six receptions for 65 yards. Hill has gotten better as a blocker and went toe-to-toe with Chiefs All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones in the opener and held his own.
“It’s a great feeling,” Hill said about the extension. “[I] give all thanks to God. It’s been a journey, but it’s been an enjoyable one, and I’m just blessed to be in this situation. It’s been awesome.”
